As I reflect on my life, I can clearly see how I was living by default and circumstance for a long-time and I wasn’t dissatisfied with where I was, but I certainly wasn’t satisfied either. I was managing (being reactive) what was happening to me fairly well. Something inside me was burning though. I knew I was capable of more. I knew was able to make a bigger difference in this world than I currently had been.
So one day I decided to take control of myself. I chose to develop personal leadership (being proactive) and start making more things happen for me, instead of to me. I developed a simple plan to L.O.V.E. myself more. I realised I have a lot to offer this world and I am worthy of making it a better place, to leave my mark on this planet in a positive and productive way. So how did I create more L.O.V.E. for myself?
I needed a vision for the future. What did I want my world to look like? What was my purpose? Where was the cross-section between what makes my heart sing and what the world needs more of? I developed my vision and purpose statements.
I had to clean my internal cupboards. I needed to get a handle on my financial, social, health, family, spiritual and career plans. So I created clear goals that I wanted to achieve in these areas and action plans in place
I identified what my core guiding principles were. What were my decision making filters that I could use to help me stay true to who I was. I needed to find a way to hold myself accountable to my own authenticity. I developed my 6 core values and a clear definition and a series of behaviors to show I truly value those things
I knew I needed to be more and do more to have more so I could give more. I needed to continue to grow and be willing to learn learn learn. So I created my own development plan tied to my goals aligned to my vision and held to account by my values so I could truly fulfill my purpose. This one I keep working on year after year as I achieve more I continue to learn more so I can continue to be more to give more.
My life has changed from the moment I started to develop personal leadership with L.O.V.E. I have found my life to be an amazing journey that I want to wake up every day and make things happen.
Do you L.O.V.E. yourself enough?
